We have come across many pati, patni aur woh kind of movies in Bollywood, we have enjoyed some we have trashed a few, but one thing which is undeniable is the coming of age of these stories. We Are Family - A Stepmom Remake, of course with the desi-emotional touch is an apt example of the coming of age relationship between the new-age souten's. On a serious note, We Are Family is not just a story about an extra-marital affair, or grudge between two ladies, it has more touch of reality, and portrays emotions of each and every character with sincerity.
We Are Family works simply because of a Magician called Kajol, she is the true hero of the movie and has been given apt support by Kareena and Arjun. Without Kajol the movie would not have been the same. Kajol connects with the audience with ease, you can do nothing but feel bad for the helpless Maya. The emotional scenes, the movie has plenty of them, do not bore you at all, no emotional atyachaar this time, rather for a change these are the life of the movie. The best part is that there is no over the top rona dhona, also there are light moments as well which not only brings the much required smiles but also touches the hearts.
The basic plot of the movie revolves around Maya [Kajol], a mother of three kids Aleya [Aanchal Munjal], Ankush [Nominath Ginsberg] and Anjali [Diya Sonecha], her ex-husband Aman [Arjun Rampal] who often's takes out time for his kids and Shreya [Kareena] who is Aman's new love after the divorce. Aman wants Shreya to be friendly with his kids so that they don't have any problem in accepting her as his wife. As expected, the kids are against this and its up to Shreya now to win their hearts. But that's not all, there is a twist which is the prime reason why the story is able to connect with the audience. Now, the question is can two mothers make a home? Well, just watch the flick to find out.
Now for the loop-holes, well if Aman is so loving and caring husband, a very nice guy, what could have been the reason of the divorce with Maya, especially when half-way of the movie he returns back to his ex-wife to support her because of a twist in the story. Shreya's effort to win over the kids does not leave an impact, its too easy for her. But thats ok, not a big thing at all.
Director Siddharth P Malhotra does full justice to the script and brings out the best from the lead cast. The screenplay is efficient and the audience gets easily connected with each character as they all have enough space and time to showcase their feelings. The sad part is that the music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is not that great, barring Reham-O-Karam and the picturisation of Dil Khol Ke lets rock is very good.
Performance by Kajol is truely applaudable, she is a magician and is the life of the movie. She connects very well and touches your heart. Arjun Rampal, although has a less meatier role as it is a female dominated subject, but none the less plays his part really well. He is now no longer a teak-wood especially after the performances in Rock-On and Raajneeti, just add We Are Family to it. Kareena Kapoor gives the perfect support for Kajol, the chemistry between the ladies is very good. She is not only lovable as Shreya but the climax scene between her and Kajol is her high point in the movie. The three kids are truly adorable especially Diya Sonecha who plays the youngest child i.e. Anjali. Aanchal Munjal as Aleya is also pretty likable. Nominath Ginsberg as Ankush has the funniest line of the movie "Tell me, aur ab aap ek aur le aaye hain".
After Baghban, a family saga which connected to the hearts of each and every person, here is another family movie which will connect especially with the ladies and will bring out tears sufficient enough to drown a titanic, thanks to the performances by the lead actors and a very heart warming climax.
Go and cry your hearts out!! A Total Family Fare.
